August Bike Rides Feature Gardens, Ice Cream and Art

Join us for fun and relaxing rides in August. All ride participants are asked to sign waivers. Helmets and bike locks strongly encouraged.  Bike lights are needed if you are pedaling home after dark.

Back to the Farm, Back to Nature
August 1, 10 a.m. – noon
Begins at the Coventry Peace Arch, S.E. corner of Coventry Road and Euclid Heights Boulevard

 This ride features examples of rain gardens, bioswales (rain collection areas), permaculture (sustainable growing practices), community gardens, “Food not Lawns” and an opportunity to meet a new generation of gardeners. get ideas for your garden and yard. Rain date:  Sunday, August 2, 1 – 3 p.m.

Family Fun, Ice Cream and E.T.
August 6, 6-8 p.m. Cedar Lee Ice Cream Social, Katz Club, 1975 Lee Road, followed by Family Bike Ride to Coventry outdoor movie event.

Ice Cream Social event includes complementary ice cream, Euclid Beach Rocket Car, face painting, cupcake decorating and crafts.

7:45 p.m., Family Bike Ride leaves Katz Club, ends at Coventry School for outdoor movie The Extra-Terrestrial (PG). At 8 p.m., the Natural History Museum will present Is Anybody Out There with telescopes and sky-watching. A fabulous playground is also available. Movie starts at 9 p.m. Ice Cream Social Sponsored by Katz Club, Edible Cleveland and Cedar Lee SID. Movie and Sky Watching sponsored by Coventry SID and Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

Public Art in Cleveland Heights – 2000 to the Present
August 20, 7 p.m., Heights Arts Gallery, 2175 Lee Road – gallery talk,
August 22, 10 a.m. – noon, bike tour of public art, begins at gallery.

Peggy Spaeth, former director of Heights Arts, will talk about public art in Cleveland Heights from 2000 to the present on August 20. On August 22, the bike ride will visit the art location, including murals and sculptures. Some sites will feature the artists discussing their works. Rain date: August 23, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
